More and more professional groups in healthcare are required to collect accreditation points. For example, CSA employees are required to obtain 150 points within 3 years, doctors must obtain 40 accreditation points per year.
Until recently, there was no central system to keep track of these accreditation points. Now there is Accreditation Platform, in which every employee at various levels receives their own Accreditation Dossier in which all completed courses and the associated points are recorded.
Accreditation Platform is the new standard in accordance with the Covenant for Safe Application of Medical Technology in Hospitals
According to the BIG Act, reserved procedures are considered medical procedures that entail unacceptable risks if they are performed by an unskilled person. The procedures may be performed independently by doctors, dentists and midwives.
Non-independently authorized healthcare providers may, under certain conditions, perform reserved procedures on behalf of a healthcare provider who is independently authorized. The most important condition is that the contracting healthcare provider is authorized and competent to perform the reserved procedure.
We are regularly asked whether it is mandatory to collect accreditation points and whether it is advisable to collect them. No, it is not mandatory. It is also the case that not only professional associations may award accreditation points. It is mandatory that you and your employer or client have mastered the knowledge, skills and materials that you use to provide care and that you can demonstrate this.
Controlling bodies can request to see a paper or digital portfolio. This is described in the covenant for the safe application of medical technology and applies to all employees in healthcare.
